“How to measure a life’s worth? The important thing, Paloma said one day, is not the fact of dying, it’s what you are doing at the moment of your death. What was I doing at the moment of my death, I wonder, with an answer ready in the warmth of my head.
What was I doing?
I had met another, and was prepare to love.”
Dear Friends,
This morning, I wept quietly in the corner of the cafe while reading the final pages of the The Elegance of the Hedgehog. I am back in Scotland, so I tried to weep discretely so as not to distress the Scottish people around me. How can one describe the impact of the final pages, their gentle but powerful impact? Well, I tried in my rather rambling podcast, but I mostly look forward to hearing how the final pages struck you. Most of all, I’d just love to know your reactions and thoughts. But if you need a specific question to ponder, here it is:
What is it that changes Paloma’s mind? Why does she decide to live?
It’s been such a pleasure reading with you all. I’ll post my remaining “Paris pages” this Saturday. I hope you’re all doing very well.
Warmly,
Joy
