Dear Friends,
Today, I thought I’d do something I haven’t done in a while, the erstwhile on my bedside table entry, a once-ish monthly list of the books I’ve been reading with micro reviews. I used to do these back in my Patreon days, but got somewhat out of the habit. I realised its because, I haven’t been finishing many books so it was somewhat pointless. But over the past month I’ve (nearly) finished four books. I was pondering why this drought of book finishing, and I think it is not that I wasn’t reading, but that reading tended to be a chapter here and article there. Last term I was I was teaching two masters level classes which meant about 120 pages of reading a week, but never from the same book. Now that teaching is over, I find I have more time to read books, for pleasure, and from cover to cover.
So today, I share what I’ve been reading: Joan Didion, Michele Houellebecq, Douglas Davies, Leif Anger. And I’d love to know what you’re reading too!
1. The White Album, by Joan Didion
