Congratulations, Joy, what wonderful news! It's a difficult dance as a writer/creator and a mother. I became a mom for the first time 5 years ago and found it so difficult to extricate myself from my 'mother' role and my 'writer' role. The truth was I couldn't. They both were part of me. But how to keep and respect the independent, developing, unique stories of my children, that really weren't mine to tell? It's still hard to balance, but I've found ways that feel authentic and true. I'm sure you'll find the right path for your family as well. And enjoy the burst of creativity - I found motherhood creative in all respects. A whole new world is coming. What a gift!
Congratulations! What a sweet, gentle and protective way to share the news.
As a young mom myself where mothering is a huge part of what this season of life is but not the entirety of who I am, I am very excited to hear your thoughts on pregnancy and motherhood over time as that weaves into your writing work.
Praying for a safe delivery and gentle adjustment for your family of 3.
You’re beaming with the beauty of a momma. Thank you for sharing with us. I’m happy to pause now to pray for your health and delivery, also for God’s grace as you make this transition to a season of new beginnings. Enjoy!
Congratulations, Joy! What a lovely bit of news!! I think it is sensible to keep things what things are precious, private and safe in this dangerous world. But sending you much love and prayers for this new season ahead for you and your family. I love the idea of those “baby on board” pins for public transport, not just driving on the road! I am not a wife or mother, but I do imagine that these experiences undoubtedly shape one’s vision of life and one’s professional and creative life. Whenever you feel like share, I will be enjoying those bits of writing on those topics too.
I just love that they hand out those pins. What a beautiful way to honor and care for the tiniest among us and their mothers. May the Lord bless and keep you three!
I’m so thrilled for you both Joy, and for the coming new person into your family! I love what you’ve shared here and resonate. It’s so easy and tempting to monetise our lives by baring all. It’s also a tension as a writer within digital meeting spaces full of regular followers / friends, of how we share ourselves, what and when. We don’t want to seem like split personalities yet at the same time, these spaces aren’t entitled to access all areas. Hard, because we care about our online tribe. Hard, because weirdos exist. As ever, you articulate these tensions so well. I hope I can see you and baby soon. Blessings, grace and joy for the coming season xxx

I love the photos and sweet way you care for your husband and coming child ❤️
This world is corrupt for sure and I do share photos of my kids and grandkids but I do not have the platform you do!
It is concerning to me though.
love you, Brandee! Can’t wait to celebrate together in Colorado! 🥰
So excited!! ❤️💙💞💗💛💜
